Richmond Portland, OR

Hawthorne Division is part of the Richmond neighborhood.
From around 28th to 44th Streets, the Hawthorne District stretches along Hawthorne, largely south of it.
Although it is not a defined neighborhood, it is one of Portland’s most popular locations.
It’s technically a component of the Richmond community.

It’s a totally different area where people accept one another’s individuality, as evidenced by the types of people who reside and hang out here.
SE Division, which is one of Portland’s fastest expanding commercial districts, is also within the Richmond Neighborhood’s boundaries…it seems like new restaurants or other companies are coming up all the time.
It’s also one of Portland’s hottest street segments right now! Visit Rose City Park

Richmond Neighborhood is bordered on the west by Ladds Addition, on the north by Sunnyside, on the south by the rest of Richmond Neighborhood, and on the east by Tabor.
Hawthorne to the north, SE 50th to the east, Powell to the south, and SE 29th to the west are the boundaries.
It is not only surrounded by shops on Hawthorne and Division streets, but it is also only a few blocks from the trendy Clinton District.
The old Craftsman style, the 4 Square, the Bungalow, the Old PDX—many with leaded glass, most with hardwood flooring, and most with wonderful old molding—all have a lot of charm.
Many have been converted into duplexes, multiplexes, or just rented out rooms!
You’ve probably wondered if Portland is similar to the television show Portlandia.
Come to Hawthorne and decide for yourself. It’s a terrific spot for people watching, and everything is unique!
From clothes boutiques to restaurants, there’s something for everyone.

I think this is an intriguing remark from travelportland.com that says a lot about the attitude and lifestyle of Hawthorne.
Hawthorne is known as “the bohemian.”
It reflects an urban niche where “alternative” is considered mainstream, and tie-dyes aren’t a thing of the past. A whiff of patchouli wafts from businesses; a flower vendor brightens the curbside scene; “art car” sightings (cars decked up from hood to trunk with treasures ranging from high-heeled shoes to bowling trophies) are regular; and the fashionable set shops at chic used-clothing boutiques.

Sewallcrest Park is a 5-acre lawn with a playground, basketball court, dog off-leash area, paved walks, picnic tables, soccer field, and softball field.

There are two community gardens in this neighborhood, totaling one acre.
